Review: Wanderlove

WanderloveTitle: Wanderlove
Author: Kristen Hubbard
Genre: Contemporary, Realistic Fiction, Romance

Why I Read It: I saw a blog, and all of the reviewer seemed to really like it, so, while its a bit (a lot) off of my typical preferences, I gave it a go. Also, I had recently been to Central America, so there was that (I went with a group which I did not ditch).

A Quick Intro: Bria Sandoval is ready for a change. More than that, she's trying to get away from herself: the girl she used to be. The good girl who let her (now ex) boyfriend ruin art for her. In the first twenty four hours, she ditches her tour group to go off of the beaten track with two backpackers she's just met: Rowan and Starling. She learns from Rowan about running from her past- or what they both tell themselves they can do. But neither of them can run from their past forever if they ever want to move forward.

What I Thought: I enjoyed reading Bria's journey, both physical and emotional as she grows into herself. Her and Rowan both learn about themselves and each other. I don't actually know what to say about this one... from my limited travel experience, it definitely gave a sense of the insecurity you sometimes feel when travelling- being quite overwhelmed by so many new things at the same time. The characters were flawed, but still likable- very human. Overall this was one of those books that I was surprised by how much I enjoyed reading, and I'm glad that I gave a chance.

Fun Fact: When declaring what you're bringing into America at customs, snails fall into a different category than mollusks- in spite of the fact that snails actually are mollusks. Nor do the fall in with insects and other creepy-crawlies. They're grouped in with bacterial cultures. If anyone know why that is, let me know.
