On Rereading

There is a simple reason for the lack of reviews. I have been rereading. A lot. Also due to exams and my poor attention span.

A quick insight into my priorities: I was supposed to be studying for my Earth and Space Sciences exam (which was, okay, not exactly the most complex exam to write, but still). Any how I was all ready to study for the weekend and then my process pretty much went "I should study. Oh. You know what I haven't done in about a week? Reread parts of Clockwork Princess. I should really do that." And so I proceeded to re read the most emotionally damaging parts of the book with all of my notes about rocks and supernovas open beside me (I tried). Yes. I am incredibly devoted study-er. (In my defense, I did study diligently for Chemistry and Calculus).

Anyway. I get asked by a lot of people how I can even reread anything, let alone reread multiple times. But I do. And I sometimes find that I enjoy them more the second time around. There are several reasons for this:

  1. When rereading a book in a series that has since progressed, you see connections that were not obvious before. Try Harry Potter, just for a start.
  2. When I reread most books that I've read in a hurry (anything suspenseful), I sometimes catch things I missed the first time in my haste to get to the ending. Typically just small character interactions, but they add to the book when I can take time to enjoy (and or whimper pathetically over) them.
  3. The lack of suspense doesn't ruin a well written book. My favourite scenes, my favourite characters, they don't get old.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Harry Potter, #1)So that's the gist of why I can reread books.

This summer, I'm rereading Harry Potter (all of them) over the week of July 31 (Harry's Birthday). I haven't done it in a while- I read the books again a couple years after the Deathly Hallows so we'll see how that goes. These books were a big part of my childhood.
